Ice Cream Ants is a mood-heavy noir nightmare, very well-produced and brimming with atmosphere & a great cameo by Tom Noonan, the original "Red Dragon" in the film Manhunter. Our protagonist (Marcus Ashley), called "Lover" by a husky phone voice (Jill Tracy), is roused from his sleep and fires a shot in the dark. Who did he shoot? Questions are only answered with questions in a dimly-lit dive which he's summoned to by that phone call, where Noonan, as "the Thinker", tosses out theories scrawled on sheaves of paper while the bartender passes down the Ice Cream Ants. This is a quick, seamless walk through Nightmaresville where the road comes around and drops you back where you started. The editing is sharp, and jerks the viewer from quandary to quandary without stumbling in any sort of randomness for randomness' sake. An intriguing, chilling piece, showcasing some great camera work and moody music from Stephen Light and Jill Tracy.

(C) The Hacker's Source issue 23
http://eveblaackpub.com

"Ice Cream Ants"
Directed by Jeremy Carr
Sageworx LLC/Crutch Films
www.crutchfilms.com

"Ice Cream Ants" at Boston Underground Film Festival

"Ice Cream Ants" will be screening in Beantown this March at the Boston Underground Film Festival. Professor Pinedo is the author of "Recreational Terror: Women and the Pleasures of Horror Film Viewing," and she teaches in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College.

Here's some of what she said:

"Its surreal narrative draws on the time travel loop of Chris Marker's short film, La Jetee (1962), the vision of heaven in After Life (Hirokazu Koreeda, 1998), and the philosophical musings of a television episode of The Sixth Sense (1972) that posed the question: What if what we think of as dream life is the reality, and what we think of as waking life is but a dream? Ice Cream Ants pulls together some of the philosophical veins that first intrigued me about sci-fi and horror: What is reality? What is hell? I'm not sure the film works without engagement with these questions, but works well as a piece of existential horror."

The complete article can be found here:

http://theword.hunter.cuny.edu/culture/horror.html

"Ice Cream Ants" - November NYC Screenings

"Ice Cream Ants" will be screening twice in November as part of a local NYC art, film and music festival.

If you haven't seen it yet, here's your chance. Well, First Sundays is a comedy festival that happens every month at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater in the East Village. Each month they randomly pick an audience member who wants to star in the next film. Then they ask the audience to shout out a title for the film. Finally, they get a director to make it all happen.

My film is called "Nuclear Winter" and it stars audience member Tom Henning.

Writer/Actor/Performer Kevin Maher will be co-starring in the film.

First Sundays
Sunday, September 3rd - 7:00pm
Pioneer Theater
155 East 3rd Street (between Ave A and B)
New York, New York 10009

www.firstsundays.com

Hope to see you there!

Ice Cream Ants - Film Review

Thanks to Patricia Freeman at Independentfilm.com for the glowing review of Ice Cream Ants!

She writes:

“Ice Cream Ants” by writer, director, editor Jeremy Carr, brings us into the neo film noir world of “Lover,” and contains incredible dialogue and acting. Trapped in a nightmare world, Lover (played with an understated strength by Marcus Ashley) is compelled on a journey where his interactions with a temptress (played by the incomparable Goth femme fatal Jill Tracy) and a barstool philosopher (played by the great character actor Tom Noonan) force him to confront his own inner demons. Carr’s climactic bar scene offers a veritable cinematic feast of light and sound, of comedy and drama, as we watch Lover interact with a host of unusual and engaging barflies who would definitely find Cheer’s too bright and tame of a joint.
